So we have had another group turn up on our door - they will keep coming now every week for the next few months, great to meet so many people and all different shapes, sizes and views. This week we have a group of younger guys, so I shudder thinking about how much drinking will go on! The first night out with them and we raided the chalets medical supplies and went out covered in bandages and plasters - so I hope no one gets hurt in our chalet as we won’t have anything to deal with it. I can see it now ‘where are the plasters’ - ‘urr we wore them to the pub!’. Ended up in L’Aalanche last night as per usual and at some point remember some girl putting full makeup on me in the toilets - oh dear.
So what was the fallout from this massive night. Well one of the guests didn’t come back until the afternoon, all his mates were really worried about him, and it turns out he was found by the police trying to sleep on a bench and they took him to the station - he could have died the nutter! Also our chalets boiler didn’t come on in the morning so everyone was a bit grumpy that there was no hot water - hopefully have that fixed now!
Then just spent today chilling out, having some down time, and playing GTA on the PS2 we seem to have acquired.
No plans for tonight!
Happy new year from everyone at Plooka. We hope this year brings you plenty of blue sky, fresh powder days. Already 2009 is looking like a bumper year for skiing so there should be some great slopes to hit!
As for us and Plooka, well we seem to be getting more and more popular. We have added some more enhancements to the Plooka Ski and Snowboarding Forum - you may notice there are adverts now! However as a member you will not see these so sign up to get rid of them. The money brought in from the adverts will be ploughed back in to the site to make it even better!
We have also hit the milestone we set for ourselves and have made the 100 members mark, so thanks to everyone who joined up. Here is the announcement.

And the site in general has been going through a bit of a revamp. So for our first season and 6months since being live we think things have gone well!!
Thanks for joining us!
The Plooka Team
So firstly new years eve was asolutely amazing. Guests drank about 25 bottles of wine which was awesome! And plenty of beers on top, which is always a nice bit of money for us. Had some good laughs in the chalet playing drinking games and getting in the mood for heading out. Had a great night out dancing and drinking the night away, and James ended up going home with one of the managers from Mark Warner - very funny!
I think it was 5am when we left the pub, hung around with loads of the guests and quite a few of the guys I have now met out here! We ended up back in the chalet and were all laid around chilling when one of the guests told me she wanted to leave her boyfriend for me and tried to kiss me - had to knock her back but she was very hot - gutted! Then spent the rest of the week coming on to me, and claims she is going to come back with some friends - could be very bad, so I have done my best to curtail that, as I do actually really like her boyfriend!!!
Oh remember those Danish girls I mentioned, well they came round last night for dinner which was so cool! The guests loved it as well and thought we were legends. We went to the pub all together and had a few drinks and more pool but when I went to the toilets everyone had left except one of the Danish girls so knew I was in! But alas she is leaving soon, so gutted about that - that’s definately one of the problems with being out here is that people are very transient so you may meet people you want to hang out with but they leave!
Also I think it may be time to drop the Santa Hat - although have been enjoying my hat so may see what else I have in the wardrobe.
So a little bit of catching up is required! I’ll see what I can remember, took James for some more skiing, and working on the old linked parallel turns. Met some cute Danish girls on the lift and got chatting with them, and laughing at everyone falling over (great way to chat up), so hopefully we will be meeting them later in the pub! Fingers crossed could be a result.
Last night ended up in Smithys and the Yetti bar, and saw one of the reps who we completely anialated with snowballs!
Have also had a minor skiing injury and tweaked my knee doing some big jumps in the board park, but should be ok, just having a few days off from the skiing. Just had one of the ski instructors around and let him have a case of wine out the back which is a bit naughty, but good to keep friendly with those guys!
Anyway new years eve tonight so should be awesome. New years resolution not to pull any pigs this season - or perhaps not to pull anymore!
So not the most exciting post on the blog ever but with every years passing it should be marked!
So thanks to eveyone who has taken the time to visit Plooka.com we are still a little site and have been going for barely 6months however those of you who have kept an eye on things from the start will notice a lot has changed and a lot has happened! The site is proving more and more popular and we are soon to hit 1million hits! So heopfully we are forging some room for ourselves out there in internet land.
Hopefully you are enjoying the site, liking the Forum, we always love to see you in there. Have read some of our stories and articles in the Seasonaires section, provided us with you resort reviews, had a look at the equipment in our store, our webcams, seasonaires diary and more and more.
So heres to 2008 and we hope 2009 is as spectacular!
The Plooka Team.
Well what was expected was more drinking and partying primarily, some skiing, some snogging no doubt, oh and guests to contend with, having seen the rooming list and it looked like a family and some couples so more low key. However they so far have actually turned out to be really cool.
Our first week guests left thinking they were really wacky and would never be replaced, however already this group has been more fun, have bought more beers and seem ike a good laugh. We have a couple of brummies, two girls who I think are together
Also a couple from Dublin, some borders, and some older couples, but quite cool and down with the kids!
So hoping this week will rock - plus new years eve is approaching!
Merry Christmas Everyone!
The last few days have been pretty hardcore, and since the drinking of training week I could do with a rest, however it has only just started - think I may be getting to old for this! Have been hanging out with the guests a bit this week, and a few nights on the beers. Christmas Eve was quality and Christmas day exceptional. Must admit though we were perhaps a bit too drunk cooking Christmas lunch, but I think we got away with it. Have also discovered the scary drink of Mutzig in the French bars and need to keep well away, 8% beer is never a good idea!!
Have also been frequenting a great place called the Rhumerie, where you have loads of rums behind the bar, you choose the size of bottle you want and they fill it up - think it is about 12 euros for a bottle! And the carnage then follows. Usually involving someone drawing on my face.
Been doing a little skiing as well over the passed few days and getting my snow feet again, and hitting the board park for some small rails and jumps - will hopefully build up my confidence over the season. Has been fun teaching James my chalet host mate to ski as well, he hasn’t done it before, although getting him to turn is proving difficult as he can’t be bothered!
Anyway time for some sleep! What do you think of the hat?
I forgot how hectic a changeover day could be! However our new guests have arrived safe and sound. Had some good people turn up, Kay and Tory plus 2 kids, they’re all skiers. Then Yetti and Vicki, Susan and Paul, and a group of borders called Andy, Gary, Lisa, Mark and Adam. That’s all I got so far, the borders definately seem a bit too cool for school, so we will see how that pans out! Have had all the reps coming in now and giving it the big sell for the pub crawls, skidoo nights, tours etc so will hopefully get on some of them.
So have had a great first night out with the guests and they bought us lots of drinks which was cool, and means no more spending the pound whilst it is worthless! Had a few beers in town and some games of pool which was good, and got in to a massive snowball fight with some locals on the way home! Did out bit for UK/French relations
Needless to say we conquored all!
Wheres your car Dude?!?
That was the nosiest quiet night ever! Me, James, and one of the other chalet hosts drank 5 bottles of wine! Then a little lubricated we started putting the world to rights, and hit the bars. Arriving to raptuous applause is always fun. Met some other chalet hosts from Mark Warner, there were a couple of hotties so that looks good, and was handed a hip flask from some random that served as some good fire juice for our drinks! Played a few games of pool, but then shocker - we were refused entry to Smithys by some massive bouncer dude!
Finally after giving up we thumbed down a van on the road and hitch-hicked home, crazy I would never normally do that, and we just sat in the back of some van hoping that at some point we would be let out, luckily we were! Got back to the chalet, James cooked up a fry up and I was sick three times!
Guests are arriving soon, so I am hoping things calm down a bit as I feel a bit done in today. Have spent a lot of it watching Dave Chappelle - great American comedian. Also I am well aware that I haven’t even mentioned skiing yet!
SORTED!
As you can imagine this time of year Snow based websites get a little busier! Well things have started to hot up a bit at Plooka, or I guess it would make more sense to say cool down….or perhaps it wouldn’t.
Anyway we thought that it would be great to get a new homepage up and running, as we have learnt some new cool website design thingys over the passed few weeks and wanted to show them off. Anyway the new homepage is there and we hope you like it, and we hope it makes us rich!
In other news……..lets get serious for a second, the Forum is still there, come say hi! We are running a competition to hand out $100 for the best ski resort review in our ski resorts section. On this link…

News has been flodding in from out intrepid Seasonaire in the French Alpes - we slowly managing to keep up with what is going on out there, it sounds like fun!
And we all saw the lift break in Whistler - hopefully everyone is ok and there is no more of that for the 2008/2009 Season!
